How do you create the discipline and consistency, especially when life is in the way? Set some realistic, attainable goals! This keeps you accountable and focused on the results you want.
Setting goals that you can actually accomplish is a bit easier than you think. I've been there, wanting to lose those last 10lbs, or get faster, or to control my appetite just a little more. I know where I failed, I didn't set these Specific, Measurable, Relevant and Time bound goals.
When we set goals we need to ensure they fit into these categories clearly.
Let's say you want to lose 20 lbs. We want to add some meat and potatoes to this statement. It's specific enough for now, but let's make it a bit more attainable, let's lose 5 lbs first. Then we need to lose the weight by specifying how we will do it. We're going to strength train, perform some cardio and eat at a caloric deficit. Now, we need to give it a time line.
What I consistently see as a personal trainer is the time line is too tight and too extreme "We know what happens with this mindset. We need to set a reasonable time frame now, recommendations are 1lb max weekly (unless monitored by a physician). So this gives us a 6 week time frame. I know it seems like so long to only lose 5lbs, but we're doing this right, remember?
Now, we set our goal up
"We’re going to lose 5lbs, by lifting weights, following the program prescribed by my personal trainer 3 times a week, walking 10k-12k a day, doing 30 minutes of cardio at least 3xs a week and following my dietician's recommendations by July 31st, 2022.
Now here comes my little trick. You're writing this on a post it note and putting it on your bathroom mirror, on your fridge, in your car. You're creating a background on your photo editor and adding it as a background.
You. Are. Putting. This. Everywhere.
